Whilst out and about near the Chestnut Tree a couple of weeks ago, a few of us could here a woodpecker pecking at a tree in the small wooded area by Chestnut Cottage.
Shaun found the tree and fitted our wildlife camera nearby to see if we could catch some footage of the woodpecker in action. As you can see, the woodpecker has been making a hole for a nest and it’s not just one, but a pair of woodpeckers! The male has a red spot on the back of his head, the female doesn’t. The video footage shows them making the hole and also fending off rooks and a squirrel. We will put the camera back up again soon to see if we can catch a glimpse of some chicks!
