Halloween Half Term Fun and Games

What a scream we gave everyone last week during half term!

den building in circle

We started off on Monday with Den Building in the woods by the big chestnut tree.  Several families joined us and made some fantastic dens with sticks and fallen branches, one even had front and back doors!

Shaun lit the campfire and kids and adults alike enjoyed toasting marshmallows, what a sticky mess we made!  Everyone enjoyed a hot chocolate while Jaime read The Gruffalo, a great story to listen to in the woods!

On Tuesday morning, a record number of families joined Jaime to do some pond dipping.  It was encouraging to see so many stickleback fish and water boatmen in the trays and even a newt.  We shall be returning to the pond in the Spring when hopefully we’ll see lots of frog spawn and tadpoles.

Wednesday’s farm ride was very popular despite the risk of rain, our new all weather trailer has a roof to keep the riders dry!  It’s a great opportunity for guests to see the whole farm, especially for those who can’t manage to walk the trail.

Halloween 4

On Thursday we held a Halloween party in the Play Barn.  We had left a pumpkin in every cottage for them to enter into our pumpkin carving competition and what a

fantastic effort everyone made.  Judging was very difficult, but Nook cottage won with their Frankenstein Farmer design, complete with tin foil bolts and an ear of corn between the teeth!

The youngsters got stuck into the apple bobbing, which was won by Douglas with 6 apples in 30 seconds!  Freddie pinned the closest wart on the witches nose, Laurel Cottage won best fancy dress, Penpont Mill guessed how many sweets were in the jar and Nook guessed the closest weight of the massive pumpkin!  Blue Bus Catering served delicious hot dogs and a very tasty chilli and everyone had far too many sweets!
