Update on the 27/01/2021
After the governments announcement of a new national lockdown for England, we will now have to close in line with these restrictions. It appears that the review date for these new restrictions will take place during February half term and therefore we feel that holidays during this time cannot go ahead.
This comes after a difficult Christmas and New Year break which saw us cancel almost all of our bookings.
We will be in contact with anyone who has a booking with us, including Half Term, within the next few days. Please note that the office will only be open on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday morning’s from 9am – 12pm.
We are hoping that these new measures will be reviewed in the middle of February and that we can start to welcome families again. We will of course keep you updated on any changes and our expected reopening date.
We would like to say thank you to everyone for their continued support in this very challenging time and we hope that you and your families are keeping safe
This page gives an outline of how we are expecting things to operate. We are trying to put in place the right safety measures and restrictions to keep you, us and other families safe.
Detailed below are the expected changes we will be making. Please bear in mind that government guidance may change and this document will be updated accordingly.
The most important thing is please do not travel if you begin to feel unwell, or show COVID symptoms before your holiday.
If you or anyone in your party become ill during your stay, you will be required to notify the office, self isolate and travel home as soon as possible and follow the Governments advice.
We would like to reiterate the social distancing guidelines that apply to anyone outside of your household.
We will update this document with any significant changes as we receive the new information, and would like to thank you for your understanding.
Reception opening hours will be as normal. Mon – Sat 0900 – 1800hrs. Sunday closed.
Social distancing rules and signs will be in place throughout the site.
A mask will be required in the games room, lounge and reception areas (this does not apply to children under 11 years age).
We will be increasing the level and frequency of cleaning in all the communal areas.
Hand sanitiser dispensers will be situated around the site but we would advise bringing your own for you and your family to use.
The cottages will be cleaned in line with the COVID-19 Cleaning Guidance issued by the Professional Association of Self Caterers (PASC).
Families will be required to leave the cottage by 0930hrs on the day of departure.
On departure guests will be asked to:
Strip their own beds (including pillow protectors) and put used linen in bags provided separating towels and sheets.
To empty all bins and place tied bags into the external waste bins.
Once vacated, the cottages will be spray disinfected. Cleaners will wear new PPE for each cottage to clean and disinfect.
Only when all cottages have been cleaned, will fresh linen be brought into each cottage.
Guests will not be able to arrive on site before 1630hrs. One member of your party please come to reception on arrival or phone us on 01208 813219 to confirm the cottage is ready. The key to your cottage will be left in the door.
Previous guests who know their way around are welcome to go straight to their cottage but please check your cottage is ready and let us know you have arrived.
Our swimming pool is open but with these restriction in place;
The pool will be open everyday between 0900 – 2100hrs.
There will be a schedule in the reception area where families can book 1 hour timed slots.
ON arrival please initially only book 3 sessions. This will give everyone a chance to secure a swim.
Once eveyone has arrived, we will then allow the rest of the time slots to be taken.
The use of the pool will be restricted to 3 families/cottages at a time.
Please only book one slot per day.
Please us your cottage name.
Please do not book more than one consecutive time slot.
Please do not book the same time everyday.
Please leave the pool building before the end of your time slot.
If you are not going to use your time slot, please call the office so we can remove your cottage name.
Please don’t not enter the pool until the previous families have exited.
The showers in the pool hall can be used.
1 family at a time in the jacuzzi.
1 family at a time in the sauna.
There will be disinfectant available for use on handles and doors if required.
Lockers will not be available.
The drinking fountain will not be available.
You will be required to change in your cottage before swimming. The changing rooms will only be available after your swim to get changed into warm clothing to return to your cottage. One family at a time in the changing rooms.
Please understand that we are trying to be fair and that we want every family to have a chance to swim.
There is no evidence that the virus which causes COVID-19 can be spread to people through the water in pools and hot tubs. The normal daily usage of chlorine and bromine to clean the water is enough to make the virus inactive. However, we still advise everyone to shower before using the pool, to shower on leaving the pool and to follow the necessary hygiene precautions that we have put in place.
Lounge and games room
The lounge area soft furnishings will be disinfected frequently. There will be hand wipes and sprays, please use these before and after use of all items in the games room. A mask will be required in the games room, lounge area and reception from the 8th Aug. (this does not apply to children under 11 years age)
Due to latest guidance our indoor play barn will unfortunately be closed.
Outdoor Play Area
This will be open as normal and cleaned frequently.
The tennis courts will be open as normal. You can either bring your own rackets or use the ones in Penpont store, which can be disinfected before and after use.
The pets corner will be open during the day as normal and you are free to go and see the animals at any time. The animal feeding will be taking place each morning and evening but with restrictions in place. We advice everyone to wash their hands after feeding or touching the animals.
Penpont Store will be open for adults only, one family at a time. Some items will be removed that we cannot safely clean. Please use the hand gel on entering the store. There will be a disinfectant spray and wipes to use on items that you require. We also ask to clean the items on returning them.
The communal laundry next to Penpont store will be unavailable on Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays. The top laundry is available as normal.
The farm trail will be open as normal. The bird hide will also be open.
We advice everyone to wash their hands after feeding or touching the animals and their enclosures.
Charcoal bbq’s will still be available to be used at your cottage.
We are looking forward to having your families here but please be aware that for the time being children must be accompanied by an adult in the Pets Corner and Games Room to ensure social distancing, this also is important on the football paddock and the outdoor play area. Children will be allowed to be unsupervised around the grounds but they must understand the social distancing rules.
We have taken the decision, for the safety of Olly and the farm staff, to restrict access to the farm yard for the time being. The pets corner and farm trail is unaffected by this.
Activities on site
During the school holidays we will only be running, animal feeding with new procedures in place. We will also be holding our weekly BBQ’s again with new procedures.
The local area
Our information folders, which would normally be in the cottages, will not be available, however we have produced a .pdf version which we will be sent out prior to arrival.
All beaches are open as usual.
Some visitor attractions will require booking to ensure safe management of visitor numbers. So please research this before arrival.
Many of our local pubs, restaurants and cafes are offering takeaway food along with indoor table service.
Angels in the Kitchen and other supermarkets suppliers, will also be happy to deliver food to your cottage.
Please note that the food deliveries will be placed in your cottage by the provider. If you would like to know their safety policies, please visit their own website. Our local village shop is open and provides basic items for example bread, eggs and milk along with newspapers.
Please arrange for food deliveries to be made after your arrival time. We will not be able to accept deliveries, prior to your arrival at The Olde House.
Should another travel restriction lock down prevent you from taking your holiday or prevent us from providing the holiday, we will either offer to move you to another time or provide you with a refund.
For any other cover that you require, we strongly advise that you have your own travel insurance in place. We cannot offer a refund if you decide not to come on holiday. Outside of this, if you cancel your holiday and we are able to re let the cottage for an equivalent value, we will refund you less a £50 admin fee.
THE FOLLOWING ARE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
1)You must not travel to us / Cornwall if you are showing signs of any symptoms.
2) If you develop any symptoms during your stay, you must immediately leave the cottage, inform the office and return home to self isolate. You are not permitted under any circumstances to remain at the cottage with symptoms.
3) You must not arrive at the property before the check in time.
4) Please bring your own hand sanitiser and hand wash. All guests should wash their hands frequently during your stay.
5) Prior to departure, please make sure the property is clean and tidy. Our cleaners jobs are very difficult under these current circumstances.
6) Prior to departure, please strip all linen from beds and put in the bags provided. We need to reduce the handling of the linen at all times.
7) You must leave the cottage by the departure time. Our cleaners will need extra time to clean the cottages before the next families arrive.
As Cornwall starts to reopen, please understand that we have all just survived one of the hardest personal and business challenges we have ever faced.
While we are excited to open and welcome you, we are still not out of the woods yet. We still all need to protect ourselves and our local communities.
We are working hard to adapt our business and to provide a memorable holiday. Due to the current government guidelines some facilities on the farm cannot be used and we apologise for this.
Our business has changed, we are trying to recover and to understand how this will affect us in the future.
Be kind, be compassionate and most of all be safe.
From us all at The Olde House
