Cornwall Beaches

Daymer bay & PolzeathThe North Cornwall coastline is peppered with beautiful, award-winning beaches, many of them just moments away from The Olde House. Perfect if you like the sand between your toes. We get great surf here too. Newquay is the surfing capital of the UK and is just down the road from us.

Best fetch your bucket and spade.

The beaches below are easily accessible from The Olde House, but there are dozens more stunning beaches on the North Cornwall coast if you fancy travelling a little further.

Cornwall's beaches are also popular with our four legged friends and there are a number that are dog friendly all year round. However some beaches operate a seasonal dog ban from Easter day to 1st October. To find out which of our local beaches do, and do not permit dogs, along with useful information click here for our dogs on beaches guide.

Daymer Bay

Daymer Bay is a large and safe sandy beach found between Polzeath and Rock. Its gently sloping sands mean the water is shallow with gentle waves – great for swimming. Inquisitive kids love the rock pools, and the acres of golden sands are perfect for playing on safely. Daymer Bay is also very popular with windsurfers.

The energetic may like to climb Brae Hill which overlooks Daymer Bay and offers breathtaking views across to Padstow and the Camel Estuary. Or perhaps follow the coast path to Polzeath and enjoy a well earned bite to eat at The Waterfront restaurant. Or just sit on the sand and enjoy a fantastic local ice cream.

Polzeath

The beautiful beach at Polzeath is regarded as one of the best surfing beaches in Cornwall. It’s also Blue Flag rated which means it’s super clean and safe. The cliffs that tower above the beach offer breathtaking scenery, and there are plenty of little restaurants and surf shops sprinkled along the beachside.

There are surfboards and wetsuits available to hire, and if you fancy yourself as a budding wave rider there’s a very helpful surf school offering tuition.

Rock

Rock is the sailing centre of North Cornwall and is also a popular spot for windsurfing and water skiing. Fancy having a go? Tuition is available on a daily basis and is suitable for all ages.

There are several walks and footpaths around the beautiful village of Rock. One of the paths leads to the quaint St. Enodoc’s Church which is around 800 years old and found next to the rolling dunes of Daymer Bay, which famously submerged the church in the 18th Century.

St Enodoc’s is also the resting place of the famous Poet Laureate, Sir John Betjeman.

A ferry across the estuary to Padstow leaves on a regular basis from Rock and there are several cafés and restaurants within a short distance of the beach.
