Head to Newquay Aquarium to see the New Residents!
Just half an hour from our self catering Cornwall cottages is Newquay, where you'll find the Blue Reef Aquarium, named after the blue reef fish. However, the aquarium has never actually had any of its namesake species as residents there. All of that has changed though with the introduction of a blue reef fish breeding program at the aquarium, set up to help researchers learn about the fish's breeding habits, about which very little is known.
You can see the fish in one of the coral displays, alongside a group of clownfish that live there. They're instantly recognisable because of their bright blue colour, which is amazingly vivid and gives them their name.
The aquarium has nine of the fish, and the breeding program will help bring attention to the aquarium, as well as educate visitors about the dangers facing the planet's reefs and the numerous species which live around them.
